Today’s feature isn’t going to be a thing or things at all but is going to be about a dream, a dream of mine to be able to host my own Thanksgiving. My in-laws aren’t known for being adventurous either in eating or in changing routine, every year the Thanksgiving meal is exactly the same as it’s been every year before and I am soooo not that way. I salivate over new recipes and dream of fancy tablescapes.

For me, Thanksgiving isn’t about the turkey at all (gag, I really can’t stand turkey) but about all the glorious sides and desserts.

A Thanksgiving Menu if I had my way

Herb Crusted Pork Tenderloin (I am seriously addicted to this stuff)
Parsnip Bread Pudding (new recipe I want to try)
Cornbread Stuffing
Vidalia Onion Gratin
Balsamic Roasted Brussel Sprouts
Pea Salad
Country Style Green Beans (little bundles wrapped in bacon)
Sage Butter Sweet Potatoes
Flaky Dinner Rolls

Cherry Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Dulce de Leche Cheesecake
Some sort of Trifle

What would be on your dream Thanksgiving menu?

Mmmmm. Thanksgiving this year is going to be spent wanting to diiiiiiiieeee (damned morning sickness) but for future reference I have the BEST recipe for roasted brussel sprouts with pancetta and garlic. AND the best recipe ever for Martha Stewart’s sweet potato biscuits. I might have to make those this year, actually, I bet I can make them GF.

Also, no cranberry sauce?

I hope your dream comes true some year soon!

blondie Says:

we need the brussle sprout recipies post please! love those suckers!!

i’m with you on everything but the pea salad - shudder at peas. the rest is to die for - and yeah, pork tenderloins are a staple at our house .

you need to just start a new tradition and have a wonderful dinner party for your nearest and dearest the week after Thanksgiving. (as i invite myself to your house)

My dream menu:

Maple brined Turkey
Corn bread stuffing
Sour Cream Mashed potatoes with bacon and chives
Sweet Potato gratins with Lemon Cream
Green Beans Almondine
Field Greens with diced apples, pecans and blue cheese vinagrette
Cranberry-orange relish
Potato rolls

14 Karat Cake
Sour Cream Lemon Pie
Rasberry Trifle (made with chocolate poundcake, drizzled with Chamford)

But my mother holds Thanksgiving in an iron grip, so we will be eating the same meal we always do. It’s a good meal, can’t complain, but a little variety would be wonderful.

yummm…. i must say, i’m a thanksgiving traditionalist. my mom’s a restaurant critic and we’re normally ALL for new dishes from her every chance we get, but not thanksgiving! i want HER stuffing and NO CHANGES TO IT!! :-)

slynnro Says:

My bitch ass mom is making this huge deal about my gluten free stuff. I’m MAD. LIke I chose to have a food allergy. Can I just eat mashed potatoes with you?

Mags Says:

I’m in.

I’m ALWAYS up for Pork Tenderloin.

Thanksgiving is about the NOM!

Put me down for a Pumpkin Cake and on your Sous Chef list.

I’d stow away if I could get away with it… just do sup with my Raven.

jakki Says:

I have to admit…I’m a tradition lover like nobodies business but I have to admit…you had me a Vidalia Onion Gratin…yyyyyyyyyyyyyyuuuuuuuuuuummy

TUWABVB Says:

Maybe you could do an Anti-Thanksgiving some time, because that menu, is mouth-watering! I love the sides too - I’ll have about one slice of turkey and then all sides!

Very good concept, I like how you convey the msg.

I'm a 30-something mother of 1 boy and 3 large fur-babies, with an unhealthy addiction to fashion, decorating, shoes, photography, music and the internets. I blather on more in the "about me" section and well, in every blog post, that after all is the nature of the beast, is it not?
